Lesson 14

Having a chat and saying goodbye

Een praatje maken en afscheid nemen

You already know Hallo, hoi, goedemorgen, Hoe heet je?, Hoe gaat het?, Tot morgen! and Tot ziens! Here you learn more everyday phrases. Learn each phrase as a whole.

Dag! can mean both “hello” and “goodbye”; here we practise saying goodbye. Fijne dag! (Have a nice day!) and Fijn weekend! (Have a nice weekend!) are good wishes. Say Welterusten! (Good night!) and Slaap lekker! (Sleep well!) before someone goes to bed. Use Tot straks! (See you soon!) when you will see each other again soon, usually later the same day. Tot later! (See you later!) is less specific.
