Lesson 5 · Grammar

Basic possessives: mijn, jouw, uw, zijn, haar, jullie, hun

Basisbezit: mijn, jouw, uw, zijn, haar, jullie, hun

A possessive word tells you who something belongs to. Ik → mijn (my); jij → jouw (your, informal singular); u → uw (your, formal); hij → zijn (his); zij (she) → haar (her); jullie → jullie (your, plural); zij (they) → hun (their). Put this word before the noun: mijn jas — my coat. As in English, do not add de or het before it. Je can also mean your; jouw adds emphasis.
