Dutch A1.3

Lesson 15 · Grammar

Plurals in -en: short vowels

Meervoud op -en: korte klinker

The plural ending is -en. In these words, a short vowel is followed by a single consonant at the end. Double that consonant before -en: tas → tassen (bag → bags). The vowel sound stays short. Notice that Dutch een bril is one pair of glasses; twee brillen means two pairs of glasses.

The forms

korte klinker
de tasde tassen
de busde bussen
de sokde sokken
